2013 Nov 29Firat News: Muslim: Some forces want to prevent Kurds’ participation in Geneva II

Democratic Union Party (PYD) co-chair Saleh Muslim spoke to Sterk TV by phone during yesterday’s news bulletin about the meeting he had with the UN-Arab League representation to Syria crisis, Lakhdar Brahimi, in Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday.

Muslim said the meeting with Brahimi was positive and handled the ongoing crisis in Syria and the democratic and peaceful solution of the Kurdish question.

Remarking that the Kurdish Supreme Council voiced its demand to participate in the Geneva 2 Conference during a former meeting with Brahimi in Damascus, PYD co-chair stated that some forces wanted to prevent Kurds’ participation in the Geneva Conference by maintaining the status quo that is grounded on the denial of Kurds since the Lousanne agreement in 1920’s. Muslim remarked that the Arab chauvinism, and the ongoing denial of Kurds by the Turkish and Iranian states didn’t want Kurds to have a voice in any area in order for the continuation of the present status quo.

Muslim stressed that “We on the other hand say that Kurds are not the same old Kurds any more. They no more accept the policies of denial and assimilation and they do have their own organization, leader, struggle and power against these policies. Kurds demand a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue with regard to this truth”.

Defending that the Kurds’ nonparticipation in the Geneva Conference would delay the resolution of the problem, PYD co-chair pointed out that; “Four million Kurds in Rojava will continue their resistance until their demands are met and their will is recognized. The obstacle to the resolution of the Kurdish issue cannot make the Kurdish people take steps backward. Kurds will accept no solution that doesn’t acknowledge their demands”.
