Appeal for the release of Palestinian activist, Souad al-Tayeb: On 10 June 2012 the Palestinian activist Souad al-Tayeb was arbitrarily arrested from her office in Kornesh al-Tejara - Damascus, by a patrol of the al-Khatib Branch of the State security department. She remains in detention in the same Branch; she is banned from having visitors and has not been officially charged until this moment.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: 320 people killed during the past 5 days in Dareyya: Reef Dimashq province -Dareyya: 9 bodies were found at dawn by the Omar ibn al-Khattab mosque in the city of Dareyya. There is still heavy military deploymnets on the ground in the city. Approximately 320 people have been killed during the past five days of military operations on the city, which also witnessed bombardment, intense clashes and summary executions after the regime forces stormed in. The SOHR has documented the names of nearly 200 of the casualties, they include women, children, young men, men and armed rebels. Read more

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL: Civilians are enduring a horrific level of violence in the battle between Syrian government forces and opposition fighters for control of Aleppo – the country’s largest city and commercial capital – Amnesty International said in a new briefing on Syria.

The 11-page briefing, is based on first-hand field investigations by Amnesty International during the first half of August.

The briefing documents the Syrian government forces’ increasingly frequent air and artillery strikes against residential areas, resulting in often indiscriminate attacks which seriously endanger civilians.   Read more
