It has been reported by the Syrian Committee for Human Rights – MAD and the Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD that on Sunday 26 September 2010, Tayfur Ibrahim was brought to the Criminal Military Court in Aleppo, in case number 740. He was sentenced to imprisonment for one and a half years, pursuant to Article 278 of the Syrian Penal Code.

Article 278
The following people will be punished with a fixed-term of imprisonment:
a. anyone who violates state provisions to ensure neutrality in the event of war;
b. anyone who, without the approval of the government, commits acts, writes texts, or holds speeches that put Syria at risk of hostilities, strain Syria’s relations to another state, or expose Syrians to acts of revenge against themselves or their financial assets. Read more

Live bullets used on Kurdish family during Eid by Syrian security forces

The Syrian Committee for Human Rights – MAD reports that Rezan and Aged Gello were assaulted, shot and injured by members of the security patrol on the first day of Eid al-Fitr on Friday, 10 September 2010 at 4.30 pm in Qamishli city, as they left their house. They are sons of the martyr Nur al-Din Ibrahim Gello. It came to light later that the people who had been watching the house were from the Political Security organization.

Passers-by who came to see what was happening were attacked in the street. Intelligence security forces fired many shots. Risan and his cousin Farhad were arrested by the Political Security branch from Hassaka. For several days following this incident, members of the family were summoned by the authorities and the some were arrested - Mohiuddin Ibrahim Gello and and Jagarkhwin Gello, and also two neighbours Mohammad Faris, and Samer Ibrahim. Human Rights Organization in Syria – MAF reports that Jamal Ibrahim Manjah was summoned to the Political Security branch in Hassaka on 19 September 2010. He has resigned from his teaching post in Qamishli. He has been charged with taking part in a five minute silent protest against Decree 49, which had been called for by several Kurdish groups, on 10 September 2010. He has been summoned to the Political Security branch repeatedly, and was arrested on 21 September 2010. His fate and whereabouts are still unknown.

A patrol of one of the security authorities arrested Masoud Sallu from the village of Derona Ighe on the border of Syria and Turkey, between Qamishli and Nusabin. Masoud Sallu is resident in Germany, and had been to visit his family for about a month. He was arrested as he left their home. Read more

Two Kurds arrested after being questioned about making fires at Newroz

The Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD reports that a patrol from political security in Damascus raided the homes of Jihad Abdul Rahman Ali and Faraz Faisal in the area of Zor Ava, on Monday, 20 September 2010.

These houses owners had previously been summoned and questioned about making the symbolic fires that are traditionally used to celebrate Newroz,  in March 2010. Their houses were searched and they were arrested as people usually are – without authorized judicial authorities and without a note or a ruling from the competent judicial authorities. Read more

Human Rights Organization in Syria – MAF and Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD and Kurdish Committee for Human Rights in Syria – al-Rased report that the defence hearing in the trial of Abdul Hafiz Abdul al-Rahman took place on 19 September 2010 before third military judge in Aleppo. He has been charged with the crime of belonging to a banned political association on the  basis of Article 288 in case number 6951 of 2010.

Abdel Hafiz Abdel Rahman, is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Human Rights Organization in Syria – MAF. The trial was adjourned to 29 September 2010.

Kurdish man disappears after a raid on his home

Human Rights Organization in Syria – MAF and Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD report that a patrol of the Hassakeh branch of Political Security raided the home of Muslim Hussein Abbas in Derbasiyah on Sunday, 12 September 2010. He was taken to an unknown destination, and there has been no news of him since that time.

There was no court order produced at the time of the arrest.

Muslim Hussein Abbas was born in 1975, he is married and has five children.

MAF and DAD condemn the continuing unlawful and arbitrary arrests of Kurds by the Syrian authorities.

Four Kurds disappear after reporting to State Security in Qamishli

According to Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD, four citizens of Amuda were told to report to the State Security Branch in Qamishli city at 9.30am on Tuesday 14 September 2010. They have since not been seen, and no-one knows where they are, if there is a warrant for their arrests, or why they are being detained.

Those who have disappeared are:
1 – Luqman Hussein Ibrahim.

2 – Salah Saeed Sheikhmous.

3 – Abdul Ghafoor Hussein Hussein.

Mohammed Saadoun – trial postponed again

According to Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD, the trial of Mohammed Saadoun was postponed again on 15 September. He was not produced at Court.

The trial was held again on 19 September when he was brought to court. His defence lawyer, Mustafa Osso who is Chair of the Board of Trutsees of DAD, announced that his client pleads ‘not guilty’.

The case was adjourned to 3 October 2010

Hunger striking Kurds collapse

We have tried in vain to call out the Danish authorities to reconsider/review our cases and as a last resort have now gone on hunger strike. One of our comrades have been admitted to the Rigshospital Trauma Center after having thrown up blood yesterday, but he is now out of the hospital and has re-joined the hunger strike at the tent in front of Denmark’s parliament at Christiansborg Slotsplads, now reaching day 7. Update on the Kurds on Hunger Strike in Denmark from the organising committee – 18 September 2010

Twenty-eight Kurds from Syria are now on the fifth day in front of the Danish parliament, Christiansborg Castle Square. Many in the group tell about mistreatment and torture by the Syrian regime

In a tent at Christiansborg Castle Square the Kurds from Syria have been on a hunger strike since Tuesday, 14 September. The group hunger strikes to stop the deportations by the Danish authorities into an unknown fate.

“We will continue the hunger strike until we are heard,” said Kek Ibo, spokesman for the Kurds. “If they are deported to Syria, they will all be greeted by persecution, imprisonment and torture, and therefore we have no other option than to try to let our voices be heard in Denmark and urge Danes to support our humanitarian action.
