While US and western media have been busy promoting the cause of “democracy” in Iran, they have remained suspiciously silent over the ongoing crackdown against democratically elected Kurdish politicians in Turkey. Since 24 December, a number of Kurdish politicians have been arrested by the Turkish state. These include members of the now closed DTP and its succession party, the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party–Baris ve Demokrasi Partisi). Read more
Khalid Kanjo – deported from Germany, trial adjourned in Syria
The trial of Khaled Kanjo who was deported from Germany to Syria, was held today – Tuesday 29 December 2009 – before the Military Individual Judge Court, in Qamishli.
Khaled Kanjo has been charged with ‘broadcasting false news that would bring the Syrian State into disrepute’, in case number 3813/2009.

London – Sheila Mosley was born in Zimbabwe, but her parents are from Yorkshire in the UK. Together with the Syrian Kurd Khalaf Dahowd, she has chosen to promote the situation of Kurds from Syria as co-chair of the International Support Kurds in Syria Association.

I was born in Zimbabwe, my parents are English – from Yorkshire in UK. We came back here when I was
8 years old, and then when we were going back, we were refused admission to what was then Rhodesia because of my father’s stance for the rights of Africans, and we have lived here in UK since that time. Read more
