Mustafa Ismail is free
Mustafa Ismail was released on Thursday 2 June 2011.
Mustafa Ismail was arrested on December 12, 2009. He is a poet, a prominent blogger, and has contributed articles to numerous Arabic-speaking websites.
It is believed that his arrest was due to his writing.
He was sentenced at the Criminal Military Court in Aleppo, on Sunday 7 November 2010, in case no. 790 of 2010. The lawyer and writer was sentenced to seven years imprisonment under Articles 267 and 278 of the Syrian Penal Code. His sentence was reduced to two and a half years.

According to Syrian Committee for Human Rights – MAD and the Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD, the trial of lawyer Mustafa Ismail that was before the Military Criminal Court in Aleppo has been postponed to 7 November 2010 for scrutiny, in case no. 790 of 2010. Mustafa Ismail in Court in Syria
The Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD reports that Mustafa Ismail, the lawyer and writer was brought under case no. 790 before the Criminal Military Court in Aleppo on Sunday, 26 September 2010.
The session was attended by the attorney for Mustafa Ismail, the representative of the Bar Association in Aleppo. The session was for the judge to question Mustafa. He is charged with: working to withhold part of Syrian territory and annex it to the foreign State under Articles 267/288 of the Penal Code of Syria. Mustafa Ismail has denied the charges against him, and the case has been adjourned to 17 October for the defence to present their case.
The Kurdish Organization for Defending Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD condemns the arrest and charges brought against Mustafa Ismail, and calls for his release and the release of all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience.

The Syrian Committee for Human Rights – MAD reports that the second military investigation judge in Aleppo heard the case of Fatima Ahmed Hawool [case 500 of 2010] who is accused under Article 267/288 of the Penal Code of Syria, and sent her case for trial to the Military Criminal Court in Aleppo. Efraz Mohammed Amin Yousef in court in Syria
The Military Criminal Court in Aleppo heard the case of Efraz Mohammed Amin Yousef on 25 August 2010, in case no. 598 of 2010. He was imprisoned for three years, on charges of weakening national sentiment, according to Article 285 of the General Penal Code. The sentence was commuted to one year.
Efraz Mohammed Amin Yousef was arrested by security forces on 12 December 2009 in the city of Derek in Hassaka province. Read more
