Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: “At least 20,028 people, among them 13,978 civilians and rebels, 968 army defectors and 5,082 members of the regime forces have been killed since the start of the revolt on March 15 of last year,” Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Britain-based Observatory, told AFP by phone.
The Observatory counts people who have taken up arms as civilians and keeps a separate tally for army defectors.
At least 90 people were killed across Syria on Saturday, including 29 in northern Aleppo, the country’s commercial capital, where regime forces battled rebels in a long-anticipated assault.
In the past week, at least 100 people have been killed every day, including on Friday, when at least 148 people were killed, according to the watchdog’s figures.

-In Dera’a province 10 people were killed. 4 citizens from the city of Dara’a: a child and a civilian were killed by snipers in the neighborhood of Dera’a al-Balad, 1 by a sniper in the neighborhood of al-Sabeel, a citizen after a shooting during a raid on camp for refugees. A citizen from the province was killed in the neighborhood of al-Qadam in Damascus. 2 civilians were killed by shelling the towns Abto’a and Um al-Mayatheen in reef Dara’a. A man and his sister were killed from the shelling of al-Hirak town. A citizen from the town al-ghrea was killed after being arrested by troops when he attempted to cross the Jordanian-Syrian borders.
-Aleppo province 17 citizens were killed. 14 citizens in the city of Aleppo, 3 women and a girl aged 15 years and a child at the age of 12 years were killed during the shelling and shooting in the neighborhoods of al-Ansari, Salahuddin, and Ameriyah. The corpse of a 3 year-old-child was found this morning. 2 men from earlier wounds. A citizen by a sniper in the neighborhood of al-Khalidiya. 5 citizens were killed during the shelling and by snipers. The bodies of three brothers from the town of Hayyan were found near the town of Hraitan, according to activists that the three brothers were abducted by Syrian regime forces.
-In Homs province 8 including children were killed as a result of the bombing on al-Rastan in Reef Homs. A little girl died from earlier wounds in the Qarabees neighbourhood, city of Homs.
-In Idlib province 8 citizens were killed. 4 killed as a result of bombing in the town Al-Habit including an elderly man at the age of 80, a mother and her two children. A child at midnight on Friday after the bombing of the town Sarjeh. A 15-year-old boy from Deir Simbel died in the town of Ma’arat Naman, he was shot by a sniper. A citizen was found murdered in the town of Sraqib. 1 citizen shot dead by regular forces this morning in the city of Idlib .
-In the province of Hama 11 citizens. 1 of them by random fire in the neighborhood of al-Dabbagha in Hama. 1 by sniper fire in the al-Arba’een neighbourhood. 1 citizen from Hama was killed by regime fire in Damascus. 1 shot dead by the regular forces in the town of Al-Latamna. 8 people (a girl, a media activist, and 6 civilians) were killed in the town of Qal’at al-Madiq and at a checkpoint town al-Tawaina and the village of Asharna. a doctor from the city of al-Salamiya was killed by excessive torture while being detained by the Syrian authorities.
-In the Reef Dimashq 33 killed. 29 people have so far been killed by the bombardment and gunfire in the town of Ma’adamiyat al-Sham, the dead include 4 children (3 of them girls), and a paramedic; 5 people were murdered in the town by white arms (sharp or blunt weapons that kill in close range). A civilian with special needs was killed in the city of Erbin. A young man was killed by a shell that fell on his home in the city of al-Tel. 2 were shot dead by the regime forces in the towns of al-Qateefeh and Ein Terma.
-In Damascus 1 citizen was killed by a sniper in the neighborhood of al-Qadam in Damascus.
-In the province of Latakia 3 killed. A woman and her child after the vehicle they were in, on the Aleppo-Latakia road, was attacked. 1 killed by bombardment in Doreen.
-In the province of Deir Izzor 23 killed. 17 civilians, 14 of them women, were killed by a shell in the al-Ummal neighbourhood of Deir Izzor. 3 died by gunfire and bombing in the city of Deir Izzor. The bodies of 3 civilians were found in the city of al-Mayadeen, they were detained only yesterday by regime forces; their bodies had signs of torture.

Homs prov: 2 rebels killed. 1 killed from clashes in al-Qarabees neighbourhood Homs. 1 in the city of al-Qusair.
